Background on the Presbyterian Denomination
First and foremost, being a Presbyterian means embracing Jesus Christ as one's Savior and Lord - a commitment we share with every other Christian around the world.

It also means finding life in the "Reformed" stream of Christian theology that places emphasis on several key beliefs rooted in scripture. The Reformed tradition emphasizes that God is in charge (the "sovereignty" of God) and that all that we do as Christians is in response to what God is already doing in us. The Reformed tradition takes sin very seriously and celebrates the wonder of God's amazing grace that frees us from the power of sin. Reformed theology also lifts up the idea that God chooses us to be a part of what God is doing in the world (election) and that we are all called into service. Above all, our tradition lifts up Scripture as God's Word, the final authority and guide for life in the Christian community.
